Caronne Jones, one of our KRS Club team members, opened up about what the Women for Change shutdown meant to her, and why standing together against gender-based violence matters now more than ever.
A Personal Reflection on Allyship and Action
As an organisation, we stand firmly against gender-based violence and support initiatives that raise awareness and drive change. The G20 Women for Change shutdown reminded us of the importance of showing up both individually and collectively, and we acknowledge the colleagues who lent their voices and presence in support.
On Friday, 21 November 2025, during the G20 Women for Change shutdown, I took part in the 15-minute standstill and joined the no-spend action to stand with women across the country. Even though KRS’s end-of-year celebration happened to fall on the same day, we chose to wear black in solidarity to honour the shutdown and to acknowledge the painful reality of gender-based violence that so many women live with every day.
I’m genuinely grateful to work in a place where we are surrounded by allies – people who show up, who listen, and who stand beside us. That support makes a difference, because while it’s not all men, it’s always a man. That truth is exactly why these moments of collective action matter so deeply.
If you are experiencing gender-based violence, you are not alone. Help is available. Please reach out to Lifeline’s 24/7 national hotline at 0800 150 150. You deserve support, safety, and dignity.
To all of us: if you see something, say something. Silence protects perpetrators. Speaking up protects people.
May our voices continue to rise, our presence continue to disrupt, and our actions continue to honour every woman affected by gender-based violence. Change isn’t optional. It’s necessary, and it starts with all of us.
Included is a photo of those at KRS who proudly supported the shutdown and stood in solidarity with the movement.
