Smit Amandla Marine

A comprehensive, bespoke system

When Smit Amandla Marine (SMIT) contacted KRS, the brief was clear: they required the ability to manage and administer various aspects of the SMIT’s Ship Management business through one central system. At the same time, KRS needed to make sure that the business and systems’ processes were as smooth as possible and have the ability to send business data using “ship-to-shore” communication from their head office to their various vessels.

Working closely with the product managers at SMIT, KRS applied their agile development process to this project and managed the full system development with five software developers and a Scrum Master, while all the time involving the team at SMIT of the project progress.

The result speaks for itself, and along with making sure they understood the deep sea marine industry, KRS developed a comprehensive, bespoke system called SMART (Ship Management and Reporting Tool) which covers the following business areas:

  • Crew planning, certification, leave and payroll management
  • Vessel management, certification and performance
  • Policy management and distribution
  • SHE-Q administration and reporting (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality)
  • Information message queues to handle the remote vessel communication needs
  • Procurement (BEEE & Budget Monitoring)

South African National Parks has partnered with KRS to develop our RoomSeeker package to world class status. In 2004 we completed the design and implementation of many customizations to manage all SANParks’s back-office processes and call centre.

The Software

Roomseeker™ has increased SANParks’s organizational productivity and customer service through quicker provision of information and activation of reservations and payments. The basic modules run at the SANP head office in Pretoria, on a large SQL Server Database, using Citrix Server for the country-wide parks.

Our Service

KRS has a small onsite team at SANP’s Pretoria headquarters, who provide support and business analysis services to our client. The system is continually evolving, and SANP depends on Roomseeker™ being online and available 24 hours a day!

KRS developed the WinQS system for ACE Solutions approximately 15 years ago, and have remained partners ever since, enhancing the package to the market leader it is today. At its simplest, the software captures measurements, and produces the Estimation documents, Bill of Quantities and Final Accounts used by the quantity surveyors. But the manner in which WinQS is fine-tuned to save time and increase productivity is impressive, and the industry has shown a remarkable short learning curve is required to use the software
